Michael Shifflet has been a Master Auto Technician for over 30 years and a shop owner for 19. He is very family-oriented, married to his wife, Annette Shifflet, for 36 years now. They have three children and five grandchildren together. Michael survived cancer and has been in remission for 12 years. Michael has managed to be a successful businessman in the auto industry, even with the challenges life has thrown him, which is a testament to his passion for the industry and the community of Columbus, his home.
He grew up on the west side of Columbus and is proud to serve his community through Tom & Jerry’s Auto Service. His involvement with Tom & Jerry’s goes back! 25 years ago, he used to work for the former owner, Jerry Schwan, as a master mechanic. Michael then set out on his own to pursue his own goals in the automotive industry. When he returned, Jerry was ready to transition to retirement and approached none other than his former lead mechanic, Michael, with the offer to purchase the shop and take it to the next level of greatness.
Also currently working as the manager and advisor at Tom & Jerry’s is Kevin Thomas, who has long been a part of the shop. Shop owner Michael actually got him his job at Tom & Jerry’s decades ago! They’ve known each other since they were 12 years of age. The shop has undergone a growth period but is still being run by the same team that loves working together. Together, Michael, as the new owner, is still collaborating with Jerry, serving the loyal and new customers of Tom & Jerry’s, where they wish to continue to maintain their premier service, motivated by passion and true care for their community.
Some fun facts about Michael - His hobbies include collecting cars and motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and learning new things. Tom & Jerry’s Auto Service is also a proud supporter of Autism Speaks.
Columbus, Ohio has a rich history, and we think it’s important to celebrate our community’s significance! In the 1800s, Columbus became the state’s capital due to its centralized geographical position in the state. It was a vital staging area during the American civil war. Our economy boomed post-war and soon became paramount for horse-drawn vehicles. As the population grew, by 1900, Columbus proceeded as a vital center for transportation. Our economy also grew in health, education, and other services, especially tech manufacturing industries, including automobiles. Our centralized location was perfect for railroads and an international airport. Our town of Columbus was destined to become a center for transportation! We have only grown since and are a proud home to one of the largest enrolled universities in America, Ohio State University, and home to sports teams like the Blue Jackets and Columbus Crew. We love the significance of our home of Columbus and support the continuous evolution and growth of our town.
